Trening v Planici

Training in Planica

With a little delay, but still – a few words about my training in Planica where I spent 12 days preparing to continue the season. Good weather conditions allowed me to complete the entire training. In addition to the nice and warm weather I had good company too: my better half Urška was  there all the time, and my friend Luka Pibernik (Bahrain Merida) was there for the first few days, followed by my former club colleagues Žiga Ručigaj and Žiga Jerman (Gusto Santic). Planica with Kranjska Gora as the starting point offers many cycling options, and especially there are several long slopes which I don’t have at home (with the exception of Krvavec). Of course, I cycled to Vršič several times, and over it to the Trenta valley and Bovec and back over Predel, with an option to jump to Mangart on the way. In the other direction this route is equally nice and excellent.

A few times I cycled to the Austrian side over the Korensko sedlo/Wurzenpass and to Dobratsch/Villacher Alpe – an equally long and interesting slope. Along the valley from Tarvisio towards Pontebba I made a jump to Nassfeld and returned along the Gailtal to Villach, then descended over the Korensko sedlo/Wurzenpass from the steep Austrian side to Planica. This north-western part of Slovenia where I was cycling is exceptionally beautiful. Even the starting point where I stayed, the Planica Hotel, has a beautiful view of high mountains which are characteristic for this area. If I add the numerous brooks, rivers and lakes along which I rode the image of nature is perfect – and this only a few kilometres from home. I trained well, met the plan, it was a nice time which passed quickly. And now I am ready for new challenges.
