Tadej claimed stunning stage victory on the very tough stage 15 of Tour de France. Peloton had on the menu two climbs of the first category and final climb of horse categorie. Very long final climb prooved to be too difficulty for some favourites such as Egan Bernal and Nairo Quintana. Jumbo Visma was setting extremely high pace throught the whole stage. Tadej managed the pace beeautifully and outsprinted everyone on the final section of the climb.
Firstly, in the last 500 meters Primož Roglič launched the attack, but it was quickly covered. After Primož, Richie Porte accelerated and final sprint began also Tadej. He was very powerful in the last meters and has beaten Primož by two bike lengths. With bonifications Tadej managed to cut his time difference to Primož for 4 seconds.
Tadej told us after the stage: »The race started flat out until the breakaway went, and we had Marco Marcato there to cover it. Jumbo-Visma set a very high pace and maintained it throughout the stage, which along with the heat meant it was better not to attack. In the final, I waited for the sprint and took another beautiful victory. Some of the GC guys were dropped and this was due to the effect of the pace set by Jumbo. Tomorrow we’ll have the rest day, then I’ll try to give my best again: at the moment, Roglič seems unbeatable, but anything can happen, anyone can have a bad day, as happened today to Bernal or as can happen to me or to Primož«
This is fifth Tadej’s Grand Tour stage win and is in great position to attack the yellow jersey in the final week of the Tour de France. We congratulate Tadej and wish him well in the upcoming days.
