Classic Fleche Wallone, Tadej with the best
Fabi Carvalho Švetak

Just three days after the World Championships in Imola, Italy, the riders competed in the 202km long classic La Fleche Wallone. In addition to Tadej, Jan Polanc also took part in the race. Already in the first few kilometers, breakaway group with four cyclists formed. The UAE, Sunweb and Ineos teams mostly dictated the pace in peloton. The difference between peloton and breakaway climbed to nine minutes in the meantime, but quickly melted away in the second half of the race. In the end, only one young rider of the Quick-Step team remained on the front. He still had a nice advantage of one minute 10 km from the finish, but unfortunately fell in one of the corners and thus lost the remaining advantage over the peloton. So a real test of strengths followed in the last kilometer, where the finish line was at the top of a very steep climb with an average slope of 11% and even slightly steeper intermediate sections. In the sprint of the diluted majority, the winner was decided by the sprint in the last 200m, where Tadej was still in a great position, but in the end ran out of power for the top places. Nevertheless, he won an excellent 9th place and thus showed his potential for one-day races.
