Slovenian cycling champion Tadej Pogačar received the prestigious Golden Wheel Award for the best cyclist in 2021 from Ljubljana Mayor Zoran Janković. Laurels for the best female cyclist and the best cyclist in the under-23 category were awarded to Eugenia Bujak, a member of Ale BTC Ljubljana, and Kristjan Hočevar, a member of Adria Mobil from Novo mesto. This year’s awarding of the Rog’s Golden Wheel was the fortieth in a row where Rog Cycling Association awards the best Slovenian cyclists (male, female and U23 cyclist) according to the UCI world rankings.
“I am honored to receive this award. A Golden Wheel is a very prestigious award in Slovenia, so I am very proud to be a recipient of this award” said Tadej Pogačar, two-time winner of the Tour de France and bronze Olympian, commenting on the laurels received by the Rog Cycling Association. The first winner of the golden wheel award was Jure Pavlič back in 1982.
The presentation of this prestigious award took place at PEUGEOT Avtotehna Vis in Ljubljana. On this occasion, the PEUGEOT brand also signed a partnership with the POGI TEAM team, which operates within the Rog Cycling Association. POGI TEAM, a club of future winners, is a base of young cyclists who dream to one day succeed Pogačar on the world cycling scene. It consists of youngsters between 6 to 19 years of age. In recent years the club has seen a rapid increase of young, inspired cyclists, resulting in over 150 members up to this day. The biggest reason for the rapid growth and interest for the club is of course Tadej and all of his success on a World cycling stage. Tadej feels the responsibility that he should give something back to the young cyclists in the Rog Cycling Association – POGI TEAM so he decided to help support and develop the motivated cycling youth.
“I want young cyclists to have the best possible training conditions. With the financial and material help of sponsors, working in the club will be easier, and for young cyclists and their parents more financially acceptable, so thank you Peugeot for standing by Pogi Team” said Tadej Pogačar on this occasion.
PEUGEOT has been the official vehicle of the Rog Cycling Association and the legendary Franja Marathon for almost two decades, now also adds the POGI TEAM to the list. As part of the sponsorship, PEUGEOT, in cooperation with Avtotehna Vis, handed over the keys to personal vehicles, a Peugeot 2008 Peugeot and a Peugeot 3008.
In addition to the official vehicle and sponsoring the Pogi Team, the PEUGEOT brand has also committed to award a cycling scholarship to the best cyclist of the Pogi team, who will score the most points in the upcoming 2022 season.
On this occasion, Adam Kavšek, Director of P Automobil Import stated:
“We are extremely proud of our contribution and upgrade of our long-term cooperation with Rog Cycling Association. We support young cyclists and I am convinced that we do not have to fear for the future of Slovenian cycling and the kings of French roads.
We are immensely proud of Tadej as a top Slovenian athlete and his compassion for returning to the environment where he grew up. We have always been aware that mobility is one of the small but important factors of the ultimate success of top athletes. We are absolutely thrilled that Peugeot Avtotehna Vis has been enabling the mobility of KD Rog for many years and now also the POGI TEAM because top-quality cycling is simply not possible without good vehicles.”
