The time is passing by quickly and to summarize the last few weeks I can say this: After winning the Liege-Bastogne-Liege race, I had a few days of rest and everything was quite calm. The following week, I was much tighter with the time – in addition to training, I had a lot of sponsorship and media obligations waiting for me back home in Slovenia. On top of it all, the weather was not in my favor for optimal training conditions, but I fought through it and completed the original plan. I returned to Monaco, where I stayed for two days and did another “proper” workout. Afterward, I went to France to have a closer look at some stages of this year’s Tour de France – Mont Ventoux, Andorra, Pyrenees, Time Trial Stage, etc. The trip was quite challenging because traveling around during the Covid-19 pandemic is never an easy task. Closed restaurants, hotels,… forced us to do a lot of improvising – on many occasions we looked like some boy scouts, but we had a good time and accomplished our goals. Please, do not think that this trip was all about fun and teambuilding because it was actually very exhausting. These days we did a good training set in the preparation phase for Tour de France. The next stop of the TDF preparation phase led me to Sestriere for altitude training. Here we are hoping for some better weather so that we can complete the entire training program before my next challenges.
As you know, from here I will go straight to my home country to compete in the Tour of Slovenia, which will take place from 9th to 13th of June, and to the National Time Trial Championship on 17th of June. This is followed by “my” race – the Criterium in the Komenda Industrial Zone on Friday, June 18th, and the National Road Race Championship on Sunday, June 20. From here I will go straight to France to start the Tour de France. As you can see there is a very busy schedule in front of me, and if all goes well, the Tokyo Olympics and the World Championships will follow as well.
In conclusion, I would like to sincerely thank everyone who cheers for me at home, writes to me, and sends me messages of support. Unfortunately, it is impossible to answer every one, but you should know that I appreciate you and that all the support from your side gives me extra motivation and energy. See you on the road!
